The Classic Readers are a series of simplified and abridged exts* that allow intermediate to upper intermediate students to enjoy reading some of the greatest writers of our time. The vocabulary is carefully controlled, and more difficult or uncommon words appear in a glossary.
Charles Dickens once declared that of all his books, he liked David Copperfield best. David's happy childhood ends when his widowed mother marries the cruel Mr Murdstone. After his mother dies, young David is put to work in a factory. The story follows David's fortunes as he strives to find happiness and make his way in the world. David Copperfield contains some of Dickens's most colourful and famous characters, including David's eccentric great aunt, Miss Betsey, the villainous Uriah Heep and the ever-optimistic Mr Micawber.
